About Us

This site is dedicated to a tradition which has been running in Combe Martin since 1911. Each year a group of residents from the village pay homage to the old folk story of Uncle Tom Cobley and his grey mare by participating in local carnivals to raise funds for good causes.

This participation consists of 7 riders and a ground crew in full costume guiding a 20 foot wooden horse through the streets of North Devon- it’s a sight to behold!

Uncle Tom continues to move with the times. It’s website (the brain child of Norman Sanders back in August of 2000), Twitter Feed, Facebook Page, YouTube and Flickr channels have now given us the opportunity to share this wonderful tradition with an even bigger audience whilst also creating a permanent record for generations to come.
